How we collect, use, and protect your data, and the terms governing your use of Signofy.
Signofy is a trading name of Signofy AI Ltd ("we", "our", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17419679), registered office Suite RA01, 195–197 Wood Street, London, E17 3NU. We're committed to complying with applicable data protection law, including the Data Protection Act 2018, the UK General Data Protection Regulation ("UK GDPR"), and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 ("PECR"). Because Signofy also helps with India tax filing and processes Indian tax identifiers (PAN, Aadhaar) for India-resident or India-filing users, we also aim to comply with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 — see the section below for what that means in practice.
Account details you give us at sign-up or in Profile: email address, name, date of birth, home country, and residency/visa status for the jurisdictions you tell us apply to you.
Tax identifiers you choose to add: UK National Insurance number and UTR, India PAN and Aadhaar.
Financial information you enter or forward: transaction descriptions, amounts, dates, income and expense categories, capital gains disposals, and any receipts, bank statements, or other documents you attach in chat.
Messages you send in the in-app chat assistant, and any HMRC or Income Tax Department notice you forward to us for interpretation.
If you choose to connect your HMRC account, we store an encrypted access token for that connection (never your HMRC sign-in credentials, which you enter directly on HMRC's own site) and use it, together with your National Insurance number, to check things like your filing status directly with HMRC on your behalf.
If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider.
Signofy is a UK/India cross-border tax-preparation assistant. We use this information to help you track, categorise, and prepare your income and expenses for filing in the jurisdiction(s) you tell us apply to you, to determine which tax rules and document requirements plausibly apply to you, and to pre-fill figures and summaries in the app.
Signofy provides preparation assistance, not professional tax advice — always confirm final figures with a qualified accountant or tax adviser before filing, and you always take the final filing action yourself.
Under UK GDPR, our lawful basis for most of this processing is performance of a contract — we can't provide the Service without your account, financial, and tax-identifier data. Where you choose an optional feature (connecting your HMRC account, signing in with Google or Apple, opting into marketing emails), our basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by disconnecting that feature or contacting us. Where we use data to keep the Service reliable and secure (for example, crash reporting), our basis is legitimate interests.
Anthropic (the maker of the Claude AI models Signofy uses) receives the relevant message, document, or notice content for each request you make — for example, when you describe a transaction in chat, forward a receipt or statement, or ask the in-app assistant a question — in order to classify it or answer you. When you ask the assistant a question, we also send a summary drawn from your profile (residency status, income sources, aggregated current-year totals) so the answer can be relevant to your situation; we deliberately never include your full name, date of birth, National Insurance number, UTR, PAN, or Aadhaar in that summary.
Voyage AI processes the text of your own questions and forwarded notices (not your other financial data) to help find the most relevant official guidance to answer them. Both Anthropic and Voyage AI may process this content on servers outside the UK; we only use providers who commit to appropriate data-protection safeguards for international transfers.
Supabase, our database, authentication, and file-storage provider, hosts all of your data on our behalf under a standard data-processing arrangement, on servers located in London, UK.
If you connect your HMRC account, HMRC itself receives your National Insurance number and the specific request data needed for that check, directly from our servers, under your own authorisation — HMRC's use of that data is governed by HMRC's own privacy notice, not this one.
If you sign in with Google or Apple, those providers process your authentication under their own privacy policies.
We may use Sentry for crash and error reporting, configured to exclude personal data and request content from what it collects.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
If you're an India-resident or India-filing user, Signofy processes your Personal Data (in particular PAN and Aadhaar) as a data fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023. We collect this data with your consent, for the specific, clearly stated purpose of preparing your India tax filing, and we don't use it for any other purpose without telling you.
You can withdraw your consent at any time (by removing the identifier from your Profile or deleting your account), and doing so is as easy as giving it. You have the right to access, correct, and erase this data, and to nominate another person to exercise your rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity — contact us using the details below to do so.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (Profile menu → Delete account), your profile, transactions, connection records, HMRC connection, and any attached receipt files are permanently deleted, typically within a few minutes. We may retain minimal records where we're legally required to (for example, to comply with a legal obligation or resolve a dispute).
You can view and edit almost everything we hold about you directly in the Profile tab, and disconnect your HMRC account at any time from Tax authority connections. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Profile → menu → Delete account, with no need to contact support.
Beyond that, you have the right to:
If you're unhappy with how we've handled a request, you also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
Your data is isolated per account at the database level, so no other user can read or write it. Sensitive tax identifiers (National Insurance number, UTR, PAN, Aadhaar) and your HMRC connection tokens are stored encrypted. All traffic between the app and our servers, and between our servers and HMRC, is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
No system can be guaranteed 100% secure, but we design and maintain the Service to reduce that risk as much as we reasonably can. If you contact us by ordinary, unencrypted email, be aware we can't guarantee the confidentiality of what you send us that way.
Signofy is a trading name of Signofy AI Ltd ("we", "our", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17419679), registered office Suite RA01, 195–197 Wood Street, London, E17 3NU. Signofy helps you track and prepare income and expense information for UK and/or India tax filing, including connecting to HMRC to check things like your filing status where you choose to.
Signofy is a preparation and organisation tool — it is not a substitute for professional tax, legal, or financial advice, and using it does not create an accountant-client or advisory relationship. You're responsible for reviewing and confirming any figures before filing, for the accuracy of what you enter or forward into the app, and for actually submitting your return — Signofy prepares, it does not file on your behalf.
You must be at least 18, and able to enter into a binding contract under the law that applies to you (in India, the Indian Contract Act 1872 requires you to be of sound mind and the age of majority), to use Signofy.
Signofy is free to use today. Some features, and some AI-assisted functionality (such as chat, document classification, and guidance), may be limited on our free tier — for example, a cap on how many requests you can make in a given period — and we may in future introduce paid plans that offer expanded features or higher usage limits.
We reserve the right to introduce, change, or discontinue our pricing, plans, and usage limits at any time. Where a change would materially affect what you're currently using, we'll give you reasonable advance notice before it takes effect.
You must provide accurate information and keep your login credentials secure. You're responsible for activity that happens under your account. If you connect your HMRC account, that connection is authorised directly with HMRC under your own sign-in — Signofy never sees or stores your HMRC password. You can disconnect it, or delete your account entirely, at any time from the Profile tab.
Don't use Signofy to store or process data you don't have the right to share (for example, someone else's financial records without their consent), and don't attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, or abuse the service.
Signofy is provided "as is." Tax categorisation and figures shown in the app (including AI-assisted classifications and anything retrieved from official guidance) are estimates to help you prepare — they are not guaranteed to be correct or complete, and you should independently verify anything before relying on it for an actual filing.
If you use Signofy for India tax preparation, your India tax filing itself should be signed off by a Chartered Accountant or registered tax practitioner where you choose to use one — Signofy doesn't act as your authorised representative before the Income Tax Department.
We only ask for your Aadhaar number as a piece of information you choose to store for your own tax preparation — we don't use it for Aadhaar-based authentication or eKYC, and we don't share it except as described in our Privacy Policy.
As an entity offering services to consumers in India, we aim to comply with the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, including maintaining a grievance redressal mechanism — complaints are acknowledged within 48 hours and resolved within one month. Grievance Officer: Maya Brown, grievance@signofy.ai.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the English courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them — except that if you're a consumer resident in India, this doesn't take away any protection you're entitled to under India's Consumer Protection Act 2019 that can't be excluded by agreement.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
